Accutane Product Must Haves
If your accutane course is rapidly approaching, I suggest you take a look at these must have items below; These will make a huge difference and be your go to kit to aid you through your journey.
As most of you should know by now, accutane or (isotretinoin) is an oral form of vitamin A. It is a very powerful medication that reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin, and helps your skin renew itself quickly. Accutane is used to treat nodular or cystic acne.
With this being said, accutane’s most common side effect is dryness & that means dryness everywhere. Accutane strips you from all oils which is why it is important to be aware of the side effects it can have on your body and health. I have written a blog all on the side effects I endured on my course, if you have not read it, I suggest you read that blog prior to the one you are reading now.

Throughout my course I had to figure what worked best for me and what didn’t. To make it much easier on all of you, I will share what products made my skin, and body feel the best while on accutane.
Let’s Begin the product break down!
My go to face washes are the Cetaphil Daily Facial cleanser. This face wash is super affordable and helps with removing makeup, dirt and any excessive oils you may have without drying your skin out. It is very gentle on the skin and leaves your face feeling smooth and cleansed.
My other preferred face wash is a bit more pricey but it feels wonderful on the skin. This face wash is the It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser. This face wash is so moisturizing on the skin. This facial cleanser is amazing for anyone who has dry skin or is on this medication as it is gentle on this skin, removes makeup and dirt and leaves your skin feeling so hydrated and very radiant. The glow your skin has after using this face wash is amazing!
When I say your face will be extremely dry I promise you your skin will have dry patches forming. Trust me as I used to have super oily skin whereas now I have dry skin. Throughout the course the only moisturizer I used on my skin was the Ponds Blue Cap moisturizer. I would cake on this moisturizer on my face and neck to ensure my skin would soak all of the moisture.
I also suggest using oils on your skin. These oils I picked up from TJ Max. You should apply the serum on first then apply the oil afterwards. They also leave your skin feeling hydrated and radiant. These bottles were anywhere from 6.99 to $7. Very affordable and great to hydrate that skin.
If you want to be a bit more fancy, I also suggest the Skinmedica Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic Acid is a molecule found in our skin. Hyaluronic acid is much better than a moisturizer as it retains the moisture found in our skin and applies much more to help keep you looking youthful, hydrated and radiant. This is a bit pricey but definitely worth it if you’re looking for a long time product to include in your skin care regimen after accutane.
OMG! Your lips will suffer during your course, and I mean suffer from dryness. It is the worst. The only lip product that hydrated and made my lips feel great while being on my course was the Aquaphor lip serum. I highly suggest purchasing multiple of these lip products and keeping one in your car, your job or anywhere you go just in case you loose one because without this product you will be in pain! The aquaphor lip serum is the best when it comes to keeping your lips protected. Every other product does not compare, I tried it all. Aquaphor is the best!
I highly recommend getting eye drops as your eyes will become very irritated and dry. It is very important to keep your eyes moisturized and lubricated.
I also recommend getting a saline nasal spray for your nose and a small Aquaphor ointment. This is to lubricate the inside of your nose as it will become very dry, raw and painful. You may even experience nose bleeds.
Foundation & Concealer
The foundation that I found worked best for my skin was the Too Faced Born This Way foundation. It allowed me to look flawless and not feel dry throughout the day. This specific foundation has Hyaluronic Acid infused in it which helps with hydration. Too Faced has a matching concealer which is amazing as well. I would also recommend staying away from powders.
My favorite sunscreen is the Skinmedica essential defense sunscreen. The spa is perfect for everyday wear and it is not a sunscreen that will break you out. Skinmedica is a medical grade skin care line. This is my favorite sunscreen and it is important to wear sunscreen everyday, especially more during your course since your skin is a lot more irritated. Sunscreen should be a staple in your skin care regimen as it protects your skin from UV rays and keeps you from having any sun damage. This is key when it comes to anti-aging!
My favorite lotion was the Eucerin Body lotion. I bought the thicker cream as I loved the way it felt on my skin. Your body will become very dry so it is important to remember to moisturize. You do not want to keep your skin dry as it is terrible for your skins health and for just the overall appearance.
It is important to know that while being on accutane your liver is already taking lot of hits. You want to make sure that you do not take any pills or other medicine like moltrin or anything that has acetaminophen in it. It will hurt your liver tremendously. You also want to stay away from alcohol while being on accutane.
These were all of the main products you need and may want to purchase to have as your must haves. These are the essentials you need for accutane as these helped a lot while being on my course. It is not much but like I said these are essential. You do not want to have too much crazy products while being on accutane just because your skin is very sensitive. You want to keep your products very basic and to a minimum.
I hope this “must haves” accutane product blog helped you all. I know if I had a list like this it would have definitely helped me during my course. Be sure to check out the matching video. Be sure to like this blog and subscribe to my YouTube channel. Xoxo
